In this article we explain the basics of free poker tournaments - freerolls.
What freerolls are and how they work (free poker tournaments)
If you play poker online, you've probably seen tournaments called freerolls. These are tournaments with free entry and varying prize pools. Sometimes the prize is entry to other tournaments or cash.
For inexperienced players, they are a good way of practicing participation in major championships, as they usually bring together hundreds of people. In some cases, the prizes are quite large.
There are three basic types of freerolls:
1. direct entry. It's completely free, with no prerequisites. In this case, all you have to do is open the tournament during the registration period and sign up. In some cases these are giant tournaments, with up to a thousand participants depending on the poker room used. Poker programs such as Party Poker, Poker Stars and Full Tilt Poker offer several freerolls of this type each day.
2. Entry points. In this type, entry is "bought" with points. Poker programs usually offer a points system related to the number of games you play. You earn points as you play for money online at closed tables or tournaments. These points freerolls usually have much better prizes and a smaller number of participants. In some cases, the prizes are very high, but so are the points required.
3. Entry by prerequisite. It's becoming quite common for the tournament to be free of charge, but there are prerequisites. The most common are: a user who has made a recent deposit and a new user (recent account creation).
An example of type 3 mentioned above is the freeroll for new depositors that some rooms offer (examples: betboo, titan poker). The prerequisite for taking part is to make your first deposit of money into these poker programs.
