About Sit and Go Tournaments

You Sit-and-Go Tournaments (SNG) is a type of online poker tournament that currently has millions of players around the world. The main characteristic of “SNG” is that it does not have a set time, that is, it starts when there are enough players.

How it works

The player pays the entry fee and sits at the table. When the seats are full, the tournament begins. Each player receives a fixed quantity of chips to use for betting. If you run out of chips, you're out, and the table continues until only one remains.

Types of sit and gos

Most online sit-and-gos are single-table. You can find some multi-tables – but they also start when the number of vacancies is filled, and not at a fixed time.

A normal SNG, with a table of nine or ten players, generally lasts 60 to 90 minutes, which is great when the player has little time available. In addition to these Sit-and-Gos, there are some with six, three and even two players (heads-up). The poker room Poker Stars is one of the poker rooms that offer SNG from 2 to 9 players.

Awards

The prize pool also varies depending on the tournament, but in most cases it works like this:

  • 9 or 10 players – 1st to 3rd
  • 6 players – 1st and 2nd (in some cases even 3rd)
  • 3 players – 1
  • 2 players – 1

The entry fee determines the prize pool. In $5+0.50 tournaments, the entry fee is $$5.5, with 50 cents as the rake, and $$5 for the prize pool. In this case, if the tournament has ten players, there will be $$50 in prizes, divided as follows: 1st place with $$25, 2nd place with $$15, 3rd place with $$10. This type of division is the most common, but there are variations between programs.

I've been playing a lot of those six-person games that pay for three. They pay little, but just be careful and you'll win the prize.
