Five tips for doing well on LAPT Chile

Hey guys, LAPT Chile is coming and I came to give some tips for those who are going to play their first LAPT

1- Remember that the Tournament is not just for Brazilians

LAPT PanamaIn Brazilian tournaments like the BSOP we are used to a very cordial atmosphere at the table, where everyone jokes with everyone else, some small talk goes unnoticed by the dealer.
The atmosphere at the LAPT is a bit more serious, mainly due to the language barrier, since most people speak Spanish and know each other less than in Brazilian tournaments. So it's best to be prepared for a different atmosphere than in tournaments here in Brazil.

2- Study the main Latin American players

It is always important to know who the best players are at our tables. In Brazil this is easier since the big names in Brazilian poker are known by everyone. However, at the LAPT we face a series of excellent players from Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Colombia. That is why it is important to know how to recognize them at the table. One tip is to look for written coverage of other editions of the LAPT to know the appearance of the best players on the continent.

3- Don't treat the tournament as the tournament of your life

LAPT TrophyThis tip is a classic in every beginner's guide, but it's always worth repeating.
Many players, when they go to their first major tournament, prefer to play more cautiously to increase the value of that tournament, but strategically this is not always the best way.
The mindset of a professional poker player is to always make the best possible decision, regardless of whether that decision is a fold, a big bluff or a value bet, and poker tournaments are nothing more than an opportunity for the professional to execute these plays. So focus on that, forget that you are playing a LAPT and try to make the best plays you can find.

4- Use the time

Another common mistake beginners make is getting too excited in big tournaments, thinking that if they take too long to think, the table will get irritated with them, etc.
This causes the player to end up making hasty decisions for no reason and is therefore completely counterproductive.
Remember that any player who thinks for 10 seconds to make a decision is better than that same player who thinks for 4 seconds.
So stop, breathe and execute your moves calmly.

5- Meet people

One of the coolest parts of events like the LAPT is the opportunity to meet people from different backgrounds, different countries, and different professions. So chat at the table, strike up a conversation with the pros when you think it’s a good opportunity, and remember that everyone is away from home like you, so people are usually willing to talk. This type of networking is one of the main keys to advancing a poker player’s career.
