Favorite against Random Cards

Imagine you want to go all in pf. What is the range of hands that mathematically guarantees that you have a 50% or greater chance of winning?

Using Poker Stove and setting the opponents as random, I made the table below. From UTG then it would be against nine random hands, from UTG+1 it would be against eight random hands, and so on, until the SB, which would only be against one random hand (the BB). See the results!

Hands with 50% or more chances to win

UTG

UTG+1

HJ

AA -> 55.7%

CO

QQ -> 53.5%

BU

88 -> 50.0%

AKs -> 50.7%

SB

22 -> 50.3%
A2o -> 54.9%
K2o -> 50.5%
Q50 -> 50.1%
J8o -> 51.5%
T9o -> 51.5%
A2s -> 57.4%
K2s -> 53.2%
Q2s -> 50.2%
J5s -> 50.0%
T7s -> 50.6%
89s -> 50.8%

We can see that the “invincible” AA is only a favorite if it is in the HJ and the powerful AKs is a slight favorite only when it is in the BU!

Reflect on this table. Get the Poker Stove and do your own simulations. And review your certainties of victory when you go all in pf.

  1. This analysis is very interesting…
    I find it very useful, just one question, are these percentages calculated if everyone calls all in pre-flop?

  2. Even though I know that the site's visitors are avid poker players, I suggest adding subtitles so that those who still have trouble reading can read clearly. I found a lot of interesting stuff here and I intend to visit it more often. I hope there is no misinterpretation of the suggestion given!
    Abs.

  3. I come back to congratulate you on the modification made, where when you hover the mouse over the acronyms an explanatory note appears… it’s great!!!
