For 'Poker Face,' Natasha Lyonne Embraced a Stevie Nicks-Inspired Fabric Wardrobe

What would an online casino employee on the run (who is also a weird human lie detector) wear? Answering this question forPoker face,a weeklong atomization sequence on Peacock, turned into a relaxing affair denial for costume designer Trayce Gigi Field and actress Natasha Lyonne. Together, the two developed the wardrobe of Lyonne's carefree personality, Charlie Cale, who is the beating heart of the veil, created by Rian Johnson. , A retro Southwestern beauty pulses through a day of the prevailing season as Charlie travels from denial to denial and disaster to disaster. To get out of the throwback vibe (which is vivid for a veil inspired by the '70s hitColumbus), Lyonne's outfits in what Field describes as "late '70s Stevie Nicks" garb. Field then rounded things out with "clothes that [Charlie] maybe bought at a thrift store wherever she was living at the time," she says.

Field, whose previous credits includeThe return, 2 broken girlsandUnnecessary for me, says she was excited about the huge success after previously working with Lyonne on a Netflix special. She moved on to ask to show a mood board to Johnson and other key people in the making of the veil. What Field presented changed in each one noticeably and exactly what Johnson wanted. “That brown YSL jacket that Charlie wears one day in the sequel?” Field recalls. “That changed my usual mood board.” Field justified this type of luxury clothing for a broke and unassuming person to please Charlie with tidbits of her backstory: “The reason she got into the mainstream space changed to her becoming a grifter [at casinos]. I thought she took some of the money she made and sold some amazing basics, and the YSL jacket turned into those items.

Any further denial of subjects came through the veil’s ever-changing locations and characters — each episode actually features an unusual roster of actors. “I had to basically think of them as ten moving mini-pictures,” Field says of the unprecedented abilities. “It got to be tough. But I got an upward push to deny the subjects. I didn’t get much sleep!”

I changed it to be happy here it is! We ended up trying out 50 other dresses and circulating help for this one. That dress is being given away now – so I sing that the participants liked it.

Field: She presumably got this hat from a gas operation. She's trying to stay incognito — she's on the run right now — but she still wants to find Charlie happy, with that winter vibe. That hat is actually from Amazon. We're bringing in plaid vests and hats. People, be happy with this survey. That shirt is, like it or not, from Metropolis Outfitters. It was modified into a random bag; I changed it to walking around the mall buying just anyone else.

We were upstate New York – mostly at the end of the Hudson Valley. Eventually we ran into Nevada and New Mexico. We were in the middle of nowhere, the closest thing to us was Woodbury Commons, a shopping mall. I moved to be happy, how can I put this? I moved online all the time, not finding anything I could, and driving to Connecticut. I moved upright doing nothing I could. I also went to several antique markets. I spent a lot of time going to each booth and finding things.

Field: You know he's splendidly prosperous, this persona [Joseph Gordon Levitt as Trey Nelson]. One of my all-time favorite brands is Brunello Cucinelli. That's it.restful luxury. I searched high and low, but I knew exactly what I wanted. We needed to have six of them. Field: I'm happy with this persona. As soon as I learned the script for this episode, I modified it to be happy,oh my god, i'm not gonna wait.We didn’t really get the hang of the cast ahead of time, I would get the hang of the participants the day before they worked. That doesn’t make buying costumes very easy. If they were serious about hiring someone, I would name all my wardrobe colleagues and be like, “What’s this particular person’s size?” I’m sure I’ll stock them in advance. So I found out that Lil Rel Howery might be playing Taffy Boyle. Here’s the Western, actually. That vest is from Schlepper’s, which is a Western place that sells completely different supplies. I sent my assistant three hours away to go to a Boot Barn in Pennsylvania. It actually turned into a wonder hunt—this whole job turned into a wonder look.
