How many chips? Betting structure

Rapatudo: Hello everyone!
I always play poker on the computer and I don't really know how these numbers work. I want to play with friends at a poker table and I want to buy chips, the kind that are sold out there, for example, on Mercado Livre. The thing is, I don't know how many I should buy for a game with 5 players. What quantity do you suggest? I would also like to know the values for each color and what the SB/BB value is.
Another thing: How does the betting structure work in terms of increasing bets per round? Is there an increase expected when, for example, a player is eliminated?

duco: I play every weekend with my family, I bought 2 cases of 500 unnumbered chips and I play with 100 chips each, I think it makes a good game, blind raising structure 7 in 7 minutes with electronic dealer, 1/2 2/4 3/6 4/8 5/10 7/14 10/20 15/30 20/40 etc.

Marcelo: Blind raising structure 7 in 7 minutes with electronic dealer, 1/2 2/4 3/6 4/8 5/10 7/14 10/20 15/30 20/40 etc.

7 minutes? That's hyperturbo even online!

For me, live has to be at least 20 minutes, the time of the blinds.

Marcelo: What quantity do you suggest? I would also like to know the prices for each color and the price of SB/BB.

For five players, a case of 300 chips is enough. Look at NiceShop, they have great promotions and a 5% discount if you enter the code pokerdicas.

Changing blinds has two options: by time or by elimination.

By elimination: can work well in smaller tournaments, with less than 20 players. With each elimination the blinds change.

Time: For live tournaments, I suggest 20 to 30 minutes. Less than that is only allowed if it is a very friendly game, full of fun, because it becomes a bit of a turbo. I suggest that you get a program to manage the tournament. You can find a dealer button in stores that has a timer, and it is not expensive.

Chips: The distribution will depend on the number of chips you bought, and how many of each color there are in the package. This is easy to solve. After you buy your case, ask on the forum and we will give you tips.

cachacina: I agree with Marcelo.

Now, to buy the tokens, I think it's better to buy them WITHOUT NUMBERING, as this makes it easier to play with a varied number of players, setting a value for each color.

I think numbered cards are more “stylish”, cooler, but they are not very practical.

Onion: I have one of 300
There are some cool 4 handed deep stacks (I haven't “evangelized” anyone in the family yet)

duco: So here my whole family plays father, mother, brother, uncle, aunt, I taught everyone after I learned to play online.

So we play 7 on 7 because otherwise each game lasts more than 2 hours, as they always want to finish quickly, the way is to make the time shorter, with 10 at the table in a round the blind goes up almost 3 times, but then I can modify this time whenever I want hehe

Since we play for 2 reais/person hehe, 7 minutes is great 🙂

We always play double up style or 1st 2nd 3rd (60,40,20)

wltr: Whenever I host home games at home, I usually play:
– 8000 in chips, divided into 25/50/100/500/1000
– Blinds rising in 20min
– Rebuy up to level 6
– 8000 tokens addon to the buy value (no rake, of course)
– Tournament with drops
Everyone likes this organization, you can play poker and have fun.

Rapatudo: You suggested the case with 300 tokens, which has a reasonable amount, but I still have a question: Assuming that I assign a value of $ to the tokens, I would like to know the recommended proportion of values for the tokens, e.g.: $5, $10, etc.
What I would really like to know is the suggested amount of $ that I should give to each of the 5 players and what the $ values are for each chip. That way I would know how many $ each player would have and I would distribute them in the correct proportion. I know that buying the case with 300 chips would be easier because then I could give the values I wanted, but I found an ad on MercadoLibre that has individual chips – they are sold in packs of 25 chips. Then I only buy the amount I will need.

Another reason for this question is that I would like to know if there is a more “standard” value for the amount of $ and chips. As everyone usually distributes the amount the way they want, the values can vary a lot when you play with other people in other places, and I would like to know if there is more or less an average for these values.

Marcelo: Dude, there's no standard. If you can buy a larger quantity, great, because the more tokens, the better!

With 300 chips for 5 players, that would be 60 for each player, right? So I would take the black one with a value of 500, another color with a value of 100, two with a value of 50, and two others with a value of 25. Then distribute the 100, 50, and 25 chips equally, and give one or two 500 chips to each player, keeping the rest. Then, as the blinds increase, exchange the chips for others of higher values.

Rapatudo: Thanks Marcelo, that was more or less what I wanted to know. I wanted to avoid, for example, distributing too much money, making the game take too long. By the way, I found the price of the case on the website you suggested a bit steep. A kit with 300 chips costs R$230.00. On MercadoLivre, I found a kit with 500 chips (almost double) for less than R$130.00. There is also one that sells a pack of 50 chips for R$15.00. I think it works out better.

Just another question: If the blinds are changed by eliminating players, are the values increased in the same proportion as the change by time? Ex.: When the first player is eliminated, the blind doubles, after the second player the blind triples, etc.?

Prices vary greatly depending on the quality. That price must be for plastic tokens, which are pretty bad. But if it's tight, that's already something. Nice Shop tokens are made of the same material as official tokens – the difference is huge! They are a mix of porcelain and plastic, and weigh the same as official tokens. The plastic ones are very light and barely make any noise. These good ones don't break easily; you can even bite a token and it won't break. Don't try to do that with a plastic one 😀

As for increasing the blinds, it's neither double nor triple, it's up to you.

The ideal for the chips in the style I told you about would be:
25/50, 50/100, 75/150, 100/200, 150/300…

Rapatudo: According to the ad, it says professional chips of 11.5 grams, with a diameter of 39 mm, made of resin.
If you want to take a look, go to MercadoLivre, and in search, enter the code: #11070646 (enter this code and click search)

Come on, and tell me what you think of these chips… Are they good?

There's also this other one here: #119774669
It is a pack of 25 tokens at R$ 7.50.

There is also a case with 100 tokens for R$ 59.50 ( #118540066 )

Marcelo: Well, if that's the case then the record is good.

Tex Wilde: That last one in the case with 100 chips doesn't match the photo, the one in the photo must have about 300 chips, and the first one that seemed the most interesting, I went to look here and some plastic batman appeared 😀

wltr: I bought a World Series of Poker 500-chip case on MercadoLivre. Wow, the chips are amazing, not to mention that few people have these chips. If you have the money, or even if you want a chip that looks cool and is of good quality, I recommend you buy the World Series of Poker case, which can be 300 or 500 (more recommended).

kabbal: Digging up the thread, but here's my request for help:
I would like to buy good quality chips, just like those used in tournaments, that is, official weight and size.
I prefer the numbered ones also in the current tournament standard: 25, 100, 500, 1000, 5000. I believe that with this configuration, we can play a home with a deep stack structure (10,000).
Does anyone sell it or know where I can buy it? Oh, and if you want to suggest a configuration that you think is better than this, feel free. The idea is to play tournaments, not cash.

LekinhoSilk: Hello,
Here at home I usually play with friends too, just for fun. Normally we make the minimum purchase package at R$1.00 and the distribution is like this: 10 white chips (R$0.1 each), 8 red chips (R$0.5 each) and 2 green chips (0.25 each), totaling R$1.00. It's a fun way to play with friends without leaving anyone "broke". I hope I've contributed.
