Is poker an illusion sold by poker software or is it really possible to be profitable?

kleberaugus: My question is whether it is possible to be truly profitable in poker (if you are a person of normal intelligence), because I have been suspicious of some things I have been reading and hearing. Things like: play 4 tables at the same time (or: I play 12 tables at the same time), as in doing so you will not be able to analyze your opponents, you will not have time to think and you will make your worst play; or: if you are losing it is because of variance, keep playing and you will come out on top (if I lose more than I win, will I necessarily be a winner over time???), or: Poker is a game of skill, there is no luck (what do you mean there is no luck? Every player would like to be the best at the game and no matter how incompetent he is at playing, they make him believe he is superior to others because HE THINKS HE IS smarter than everyone else.
Apart from all this illusion sold, I like the game, I play for fun, I haven't started to study the game seriously yet and the experience I've had is that I always win and invariably lose everything afterwards. These ups and downs are largely due to the luck factor of the game, although I agree that I have a lot to improve in my strategies, I've already identified gross errors in my game.
For now, my main interest in poker is fun, because if it were for profit I would have given up a long time ago. But now that I've started thinking about improving myself, reading books and websites about strategy, understanding the game better, now that I'm thinking about having a bankroll and managing it, so that maybe it can be a profitable pastime, although I still believe that poker is a game of luck.
Could you show me a person who started as an amateur and managed to become profitable (these days, where you don't tie dogs with sausages anymore? How much can an average poker professional (I'm not talking about the one who wins a 1 million tournament in life and another in death and becomes an example for everyone) make?
From all that has been said, although I would like to delve deeper into this world, I am afraid that I am just deluding myself by reading books and spending time trying to improve myself in a game that, although it is sold as a mind game, is really just a game of chance. That would never spoil the fun, but I don't think it is good to deceive people with somewhat flawed tips.

Harvey_brz: Believe me, poker is not about luck. Luck would be the lottery that you only win once. How can it be luck when someone can win 4, 5, 6 or 10 times? Most hands are decided before seeing the cards. Where is the luck? The ability to read your opponent or make him give up when he is winning is the art of poker. Luck in poker only represents 12%, the rest is intelligence and skill. I just started playing poker, and I also thought it was luck!

VIVÃO: playing cash game I say that it is quite possible to make some money, you can see what the day to day life of a cash game sufferer is like https://pt.pokerstrategy.com/forum/thread.php?threadid=158990&page=2

As for tournaments, it's a bit more complicated, there are a lot of people playing so without imposing volume it's very difficult to make a little money, if you can't make volume it's better to just play.

for@steiro99: I still believe it's luck because I always go broke, good cards in my hand don't hit the table for me... I think luck in poker is more than 12 percent.

yipman: Dude, I'm also new to poker, but from the books I read and videos, tournaments and lectures I've attended I believe that the luck factor can be reduced to a certain point where its influence on your game becomes minimal.

fillipi torres: I'm a beginner too and one thing I've learned is that in poker you make plays that will be profitable in the long run mathematically speaking, if you know how to make the decision with the highest win rate over time you will become profitable. At least that's what I've learned.

luizjpd: You won't always win in poker, nobody always wins, there is a luck factor, but as mentioned above, if you use the mathematical knowledge of the game and manage to apply it efficiently in the long term, it does become profitable. Note: I'm not having a good day today, 3 bets on the flop that I was ahead with a higher pair and a good kicker, on the turn it became a second pair for my opponents, it happened 3 times today, but it's called bad beats, it happens to everyone, just like I lost like this today, tomorrow I can win, but in general, using the concepts of outs, odds, pot odds, in the long term the return is good and you don't need to be a math genius to master these concepts, it's just a matter of practice.

kleberaugus: I finally found my way in poker playing HEADS UP, for now I'm playing low values to test my tactics but for now it's working: yesterday I was at $89.00 and today I'm at $146.81, I just don't know if it's my tactics that are working or if it's just a streak of luck. My graph on shark scope is an upward descent from the times when I played without any tactics, but from yesterday to now when I started playing more intelligently the graph started to go up a little.

It could be a good run, enjoy it... but deep down you know if you're lucky or not, knowing the mathematics of the game makes you understand if you're "lucky or unlucky". I just think that such a big win isn't so normal, maybe you're playing outside of your bankroll management.

money: I also have this doubt.
Is it possible to earn good money or not?

Even though your nickname is money, I recommend playing poker. After all, it's a sport like any other. You ask, can you make money playing volleyball? The answer is yes, but do you have the attributes required to make money? Such as discipline, time, emotional control, money... It depends on each person.

And I say more... These cash guys are prepared for anything! They don't play MTTs due to lack of time or patience, but if they take a little tournament and focus on it, they'll crush a lot of people!

fcmachado20: Well, I believe that playing online is much harder to use strategy when you can't see your opponents' reactions. But I know someone who has been living off poker for a few years now. But he had the money to start with a good investment. I watched a cool movie about poker this week, Molly's Game.

Good evening everyone.
