prof_anselmo: Hello friends, some time ago I read something about this question from a beginner, and it turned out that I prepared some material and ended up not posting it, so here it goes
Multi Table Tournaments (MTT)
The so-called MTTs are the games that we normally see broadcast on TV. In Brazil, above all, it is the “allowed” form of poker, something that cash games are not here.
In MTT you buy chips and depending on the tournament structure you can make rebuys and even an add-on (an extra addition) for a certain period of time. After this period, if you lose all your chips, you will be eliminated from the tournament.
There is also the freezeout mode, in which there is no rebuy or add-on, if you lose your chips at any time you will be out of the tournament.
In cash games, you can re-buy whenever you deem necessary, or if you lose all your chips.
Another factor to note is that in MTT, once you enter the tournament you cannot go out and withdraw the money you invested, or what is left, because it is incorporated into the total prize pool of the tournament, which generally awards 10 % from the Field. To play MTT you cannot be in a hurry, know that it can take from 3 to 5, 6 hours or in some cases, even more than 10 hours of play.
In cash, unless otherwise stated by the table, whenever you wish to leave the table, you are allowed to get up and take the money you won or what is left of the initial amount with you.
Another important difference between the two…
The structure of the blinds
In MTT the blinds go up from time to time (levels), and can vary between common, turbo, and hyper-turbo.
In cash games, there is no change in blinds, which allows you to have a calmer game than the hyper-turbo MTTs we see.
Therefore, in cash games, you will not find phases of the game, whereas in MTT, there are always phases that must be played in different ways.
Initial phase, where it is much more a time for observing and taking notes of your opponents, than actually building a big stack. Of course, if good hands come, you will build your stack gradually (preferably), avoiding possible coin flips, or putting your entire stack on the table, except when you are nuts (with the best possible hand on that street). Time to play more solid (tight).
Intermediate phase – This is where the blinds start to hurt, and the size of your stack starts to make a difference in how you play the pots. It is important to master the “M” factor here to understand strategy from this part of the tournament onwards.
Roughly speaking, the “M” factor is the sum of all the money involuntarily put into your hand, that is, the sum of SB + BB, plus ANTE, divided by your stack. If the quotient is 10 or less, you are in what we call all-in mode. If you enter, you are pushing all your chips into the pot. Above that, you can still try a strategy other than the desperation of having to push everything. Some say that if it is below 15, you are already in all-in mode.
Bubble phase, which means staying or not in In the Money (itm)
At this stage, players tend to become tighter, a time when you can take advantage of this solidity in the way your opponents play, after all, no one wants to be left without the money they invested.
After the bubble bursts, you will notice that players who were short on chips start to fall or double down faster than before the bubble, precisely because of the desperation of wanting to double down at any cost.
Final phase, where the largest portion of the prize pool is concentrated, generally the final table, if in the previous stages, you were more open-handed, in the first stages of the final table it is good to return to a more conservative style, but always remembering that in each orbit, it is necessary to take a hand, so as not to be compromised in the relationship between the BB and your stack, having the “M” below next or below 15.
It is worth noting that although the cash game does not have all these phases, it has other complexities that will not be covered in this brief essay.
Well, dear friends, I hope that the main differences between cash and MTT have been made clear to newcomers, and above all, which type of game best suits your profile. Suggestions and discussions are welcome, my dear friends…
Furthermore, I would like to thank you for your patience and willingness to follow this brief essay. If you liked it, thank you hehehe, and indicate it for the post of the month lol, hugs to all.

This is a misconception that almost everyone has. Regardless of cash, sng or mtt, poker is a game of skill. Period. There is no sense in this distinction. The idea that Brazilian MTT pros defend is that you have to go little by little, first recognize MTT and then cash game.
I thought it was cool until the Brazilian poker user came here to give this opinion.
Cebola: a while ago I also wrote an article about the differences between the modalities (cash, sng and mtt)

Petrillo: Thanks Anselmo! Great discussion!

Unfortunately, this is still what prevails here, if we stop to think that a tennis tournament also has money running around, but that does not make it “illegal”, the question arises, why can't cash be legalized?
It will take some time yet…
There is no doubt that poker is a skill, however, the uninformed, or even ignorant, continue to have their “opinion formed about everything”…!!!!
…. I mean… now the opposite of what I said before, than having that old opinion formed above all…. than having that old opinion formed about everything!!!!
It is difficult to teach someone who already thinks he has all the knowledge….

Question: were these last paragraphs directed at me?
RafaelRJ: China, I believe Anselmo did not refer to you at any time.
He meant that it is difficult to explain to laymen that poker is a sport of skill.
At least, in my understanding

china: I don't think so either, I just wanted to know out of curiosity.
prof_anselmo: hehehe. no buddy, I really meant to say to those who are against poker, who are “doctors” of the truth, because they think they are full of knowledge…, their pot is already full, and there is no room for any more different knowledge, from the old opinion formed about everything… that’s why the part of Raul’s song…
so we can see how important it is to clear up any doubts, to avoid misunderstandings…
I would never be my friend to you... I have total respect for you, my friend... thank you for your comment on the post... hugs
