How do you deal with a bad beat?

LukasBorba: Hi guys, I've been playing poker for about 2 years and I've always had this difficult mission of dealing with the
bad beats (if you can call it that), in live poker it's not so difficult, but what makes me nervous is online...
I know it has nothing to do with anything, but it seems like every time I shove pf hits the river
and it bothers me a lot. How can I control myself more and not tilt, any book recommendations? :spade:

Julio Kenji: Easy to explain, but difficult to accept...

Understand... accept... that... only the penalty taker misses.

If you're really willing to play poker, know that it's part of the game.

If you don't want to take the penalty, don't even enter the game.

Good luck!

Carcamano: Sorry. I use the bads to get information out of the opponent (of course, if that's the case), but the main thing is to understand that it's part of the game, and not the end of it. Working on your emotions is fundamental... and man, there's no secret or method for dealing with it, it's more your way of looking at the situation that counts.

Falcao 09: To this day I haven't learned how to deal with it, especially when it happens in the final stages of tournaments, and at various tables, I always clink lol, I curse, I get nervous, then I take a deep breath, try to stay calm, wait a few minutes and move on to the next one.

waxman752: Take a look at this text by Andrew Carnegie (1835-1919):

Two important facts in this life stand out: firstly, that each of us inevitably suffers temporary defeats, in different ways, on different occasions. Secondly, that every adversity carries with it the seed of an equivalent benefit. I have yet to meet a man who has succeeded in life without first suffering temporary defeats. Whenever a man overcomes setbacks, he becomes mentally and spiritually stronger... This is how we learn what we owe to the great lesson of adversity.
Andrew Carnegie

Daximmous: Bed beat for me has always been a long downswing, I've never considered bed beat as a single hand, that's probably why I don't worry about it.

Mr. Reis: There's a part of the book "the mental game of poker" that helped me deal with this better...

It goes something like this... when you see the weather forecast on TV and it says there's a chance of rain, you don't get angry when you go out in the street and it rains... so why do you get angry when you take a bad beat if you know there's a chance of it happening?

VIVÃO: I speak 16 different words and say that I'll never play on this piece of junk software again, I put it in absentee for the next hand... and 5 minutes later I'm there again... and I say, now go!!!

viniciussb: I once read a book called The Greatest Salesman in the World.
It has nothing to do with poker literally, but rather with lessons for life/work.

I don't have it here, so the quote isn't 100% correct, but that's the idea:

"When I'm winning, I remember my defeats to understand that I'm not perfect and I have to be careful. When I'm losing, I remember my victories so that I know I'm strong enough to overcome challenges and not get discouraged."

It works for me.
If you search for books in e-commerce or on Google, you'll find some that are well recommended and directly related to poker.

adahylgarcez: If you're playing a lot of tables and you can't stop, sng, mtts and so on and you see that you're really going to lose it, pour some cold water on your face, take a glass of water and try to come back more calmly, put on some calm music, sit down and meditate for a few minutes, it's better to lose a few hands than the whole tournament, everyone has their own method, just find what works best for you, if you're on break there's even time to take a quick shower and so on.

Julio Kenji: Until a few days ago, I boasted that I NEVER tinkered until I lost a pot with a Straight Flush!

I threw the mouse away... cursed and spat... banged my head on the keyboard...

Like everyone here, I've had bad beats in the cruelest ways possible, but this one I couldn't hold back.

But the most important thing: I didn't lose any more because of the tilt. And that's what matters.

As I play cash, I left the session (of all the tables) immediately, posted this hand here on PD and went to watch TV.

To draw a parallel: there's nothing wrong with getting drunk (apart from your own health), the problem lies in the actions you take in this state. Got drunk? Go to sleep. Tired? Stop playing.

And when you're on the bubble of an MTT mega field? First, don't open any more tables. Secondly, don't try to make up for what you've lost or take revenge on the villain.

killerqueen: The bads that tilt us are when we have monster hands. I've busted a few tournaments with some huge guys paying with anything.
I could see that:
1) These players won the stack to pay with marginal hands, we can't crucify them for that;
2) In my eagerness to double up in order to have a real chance at the FT, I play only with my cards and forget about my opponents. With these hands we end up getting careless;
3) In all situations: put notes on the opponent. Betting pattern, what he raises with in the utg, if he shoves in the blind fight, if he's a naughty limper... lol. I want to make sure I don't make the same mistake against the opponent.
4) We also "apply" badges.

Taking a break from the game, playing other sports or studying is important, because we become impatient in our search for results when the game is continuous. When we don't play, we have more desire and patience.

When the bad is too much, I shoot Call of Duty...lol

Mr. Reis: Wow, banging your head on the keyboard is tough.

VIVÃO: As well as doing all that, I get more upset, because you play for an hour as concentrated as possible, you go to kill the zoom... and you get the donkey...

But all you wanted to do was get paid by the donkey... then there's that dilemma in your head...

Just think... there's only profitable poker for beings like this animal...

Vadiu: 1- If you're a good player, it's natural that the times you go to showdown you'll be up against a hand that's worse than yours.
2- Worse hands can win at showdown

If you're a good player, it's only natural that you'll lose at the showdown, so you should maximize your non-showdown winning.

DiogoSapo: Short,
when i get a badbeat from the hairy ones, i create a note on the player... kkkk...

I follow the reasoning, like: "I'll remember what I said, and I'll get even"... :diablotin:
